We are very sorry to inform you that we have had over 200 students register to be involved (over 100 wanting to be cheerleaders) whilst only 70 students are actually required (10 cheerleaders). In Term 4 over 70 students registered for lead roles, auditioned in front of a panel, attended exhausting workshops and from these students our cast for the 2015 production was chosen.
At this stage no other students are required for on-stage, however, students who registered to help behind the scenes will be contacted later in the term.
We thank you for your interest in being in the show and hope you register for the next production (the college puts on a show every 2 years).
Arhhh Musical Theatre...
If the idea of Mt St Patrick College announcing the staging of its next musical has you bursting with excitement you have come to the right place! Students at Mt St Patrick are serious devotees to Musical Theatre and that has been revealed in the keen interest and commitment students have shown over our proud 18 year history of staging musical theatre productions at the College, and our reputation of excellence. It helps that our College Principal and Parish Priest are also Musical Theatre fans and approved the building of our state of the art, super expensive & super impressive multi-purpose-hall to stage our shows.
In April, 2015 (Week 2 of Term 2) our college will stage 3 performances of 'High School Musical' On Stage'. Wednesday night, Friday night & Saturday night.
Of all musicals considered this musical above them all will allow for the most amount of students to shine on stage! From lead roles to smaller roles, from singing to dancing, spoken roles to acting roles, we are sure there's a role that you would be perfect for you!
If you would like to be involved but are not such a fan of being in the 'spotlight' perhaps you should enquire about the behind the scenes roles which include sound, lighting, set design, costuming, make-up, & stage hands.
WHEN ARE THE AUDITIONS??? I hear the keen ones amongst you shout!
WHAT'S AN AUDITION??? I hear those less experienced ask.
WHAT IF I'M NOT A GOOD SINGER?
HOW MUCH TIME WOULD I HAVE TO GIVE UP?
Well keep reading to find out all you need to know:

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Watch the movie, familiarise yourself with the characters and the songs.
2. Decide if you would like a LEAD ROLE (that is a significant character that most likely will have a singing role) or part of the CHORUS (that is you sing as part of a group on stage, often students from the chorus may be chosen by the director to step up into bigger roles) or if you would like to be in a BEHIND THE SCENES role (that is you want to be involved but aren't keen to be on stage or don't have the time to attend practices due to other commitments).
3. Fill out the form to show your interest, this just helps the teachers to know how many students are interested in being involved.
4. Talk to your parents about the rehearsal schedule and if you have the time to devote to the show. It will take up a lot of your time and energy, especially as it gets closer to the date. You will need to be able to keep on top of your school work and catch up on any work missed. You're parents will need to be able to drop you off and pick you up from after school rehearsals. See #10 for more info.
5. Auditions for LEAD ROLES will be called in week 3 of Term 4, 2015. Students wanting to audition need to prepare a song from a Musical to sing (use Youtube for your accompaniment, don't sing without music). It is prefered that you sing a song from 'High School Musical' although any musical theatre piece will be accepted. Before starting your song you should describe the character that is singing and then sing it as that character. You will be asked if you have any singing, dancing or drama experience and if you have been involved in any other shows. You will be asked to act out a short scene. You can prepare a short scene with a partner or friends to audition with, or Mr James will select a scene for you to do and give you a script to read from. (30-40 students, ideally an even amount of boys and girls, will be chosen for the LEAD ENSEMBLE).
6. Auditions for CHORUS will take place after exam week. As a group you will be taught to sing a song from the Musical and you will be taught dance moves to do while singing. (A maximum of 50 students will form the CHORUS.)
7. A meeting will be held in Week 8 for students interested in a BEHIND THE SCENES role.
8. 3 days of workshops (singing, dancing, acting, games, food & fun) will be held in Week 9 for all Lead and Chorus members where we will choose songs and prepare them to perform at Open Day which will occur in Term 1, 2015.
9. Rehearsals will begin in Week 2, Term 1, 2015. Be prepared for 10 weeks of intense rehearsals. Rehearsals will include Tuesday Sport Times for all students, students in the Lead Ensemble wil be involved in rehearsals during periods 1-3 on Tuesdays. There is likely to be rehearsals one afternoon a week from 3.30-5.30pm for all students.
From Week 7 onwards BEHIND THE SCENES students will become involved in rehearsals.
10. In weeks 1 & 2 of Term 2 (Remember our first performance is Wednesday of Week 2) students will attend class for periods 1&2 only before spending the rest of the day preparing & rehearsing.

FAQ'S (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)
WHAT HAPPENS IN AN AUDITION?
Your audition will consist of:
60 seconds of singing.
60 seconds of acting.
60 seconds of brief chat about which roles you are interested in.
You can audition by yourself or with a friend as a pair
You only need to audition once to be considered for all roles
After all auditions are completed, students will be notified if they have made it to the next round.
If you are interested in a lead role you will need to audition in Week 3. In your audition you will need to demonstrate any ability you have in singing, drama and movement/dancing. You should prepare a song from a musical (ideally 'High School Musical') and sing that song for a panel of 3 teachers. The more you can perform the song 'in character' the more successful your audition will be. You will also need to act out a short scene (again, ideally from 'High School Musical'), if you don't prepare a short scene Mr James will provide you with a script and you will need to read it and act it. The teachers are very warm and friendly in the auditions and appreciate every student that has the courage to audition. You will feel more at ease if you come prepared.
WHO NEEDS TO AUDITION? Only students wanting a lead role will need to audition. You can audition with a friend. Any student not sucessful in placing a lead role will become part of the Chorus. (Students wanting to be part of the CHORUS will participate in an informal audition where they will be taught as a group to sing and dance a song from the musical.)
WHEN WILL AUDITIONS TAKE PLACE? Week 3 for Lead roles, Week 7 for Chorus members.
WHEN WILL I FIND OUT? It is always very difficult to make the decisions about who gets the lead roles, and while leading to exhileration for some, others will indeed be heart broken. For this reason we try not to make you wait too long and you shoulf find out approximately 1 week after all auditions are concluded.
